new rules

I’m probably going to regret saying this, but I may resume writing up bits and pieces on my favorite music out there after what seems like a long break from keeping this up. Thank you for checking back with me for this long, even if it’s just to check whether my Ultimate Breaks and Beats collection is back online by now. ;) (I can see your search terms. :–))

Anyways, I have a few ideas on my mind that I feel I want to push out there.

I’m curious how I’m going to surprise myself…

Cheers,

Just to let you know: I’m about to go and kill all RS links this coming week.

If you want something and it’s still up, better grab it now.

As a next step, I’ll remove all cheap posts I made “from the hip”, as it were, and just keep this as a collection of good-enough write-ups, as well as posts on free, legal music.

I’m not doing this because some authority or server provider is wrestling my arm, or because an artist is crying into their pillow about me. Matter of fact, in these 6-odd years I’ve probably got a mere two requests to take down material I’d upped – and both were on strictlybeats. (One was a brandnew Aloe Blacc album – which I fully understand, and one was a then 14-year-old Brand New Heavies album – which is bonkers.) And to both I did oblige at once, as promised. No stress, it’s all love.

When I did get comments from artists, they were usually happy to see themselves remembered. And from the comments of you, the people, I know I’ve introduced the odd one or two artists to an avid listener and made their life better – or so I hope.

But it’s time for me to clean up my blog. I do realize it’ll turn away all those who’ve been hitting me up about the Dusty Fingers and the Ultimate Breaks and Beats collections, which have been incredibly popular. But that’s okay. There are others who are quicker and with more free time on their hands, who will help you out with these.

Be well and see you soon with more fresh music. – That’s not going to end, mind you.

Okay so I haven’t posted in a little while. Guess what, I’m still around. Besides everything else I need my time for, I’ve been hatching a slightly new concept for this here little blog of mine. No, it’s not gonna revolutionize the world or be that “next level” kinda shit everybody’s apparently putting out, but there’s one thing I wanna do more, and that’s promote good talent that’s out there. And by that I mean shed a spotlight on people who do the unthinkable: make great music for free, just so you ungrateful mofos can leech away without feeling bad about it (as if!). ;)

For those that don’t follow me that closely, you may wanna look at this discussion on strictlybeats where the talk has been about bringing in more FOR the artists as well. Saves me re-interating my arguments. Or look at “My Fileosophy” above.

Anyhow, long story short: I’m resuming posting. There’ll be good music from a few years back that I wanna talk about, especially to continue my series of UK and German hip-hop, maybe mix in some Swiss goodness as a new thing, plus some quality music that’s available for free that you should definitely wrap your ears around.

And for those of you who make music but lack the platform to promote it, get at me and chuck me a link or two. If I like it, and only if I really feel it, I’ll write a few lines about your shit. Holla! :)

So I just checked on my files and saw that some pathetic tosser’s actually taken the time to have quite a few of them deleted. Must’ve taken him the better part of his lonely and empty evening up in his room. But I understand… this is a cat-and-mouse game. I upload music and try to show my readers (that’s you) what kind of stuff I like, while hoping a few of you guys actually share my taste and might even go out and cop the odd album, because that’s how I really think it should work. And then somebody occasionally kills a file or two, cos they feel it’s not right what I’m doing. But it takes a right badass to do it this way.

wanker

The albums that have disappeared within the last 12h are not even related. Okay, there’s a grip of Gunshot and all of Brother Ali, but a lot more still and all that can’t possibly be owned by one and the same person or company, no matter how big the conglomerate. So I realized two things:

a) People don’t take my disclaimer (see bottom right) seriously. All you need to do is ask and I’ll take shit down. Always have done, always will do.

b) As much pride as I’ve taken in keeping my links alive, I figure if you haven’t got your mouse arrows on the material up on here by now, you’ll never.

So this post marks a change in policy: Whatever links prior to this posting are still working, I’ll leave them as they are. But I won’t necessarily re-upload them, should they fall victim to pathetic tosserism. I’ll leave the posts up there, and if a link’s not working, you’d have to ask really nicely to get me to do anything about it. (i.e. positively no bitching.)

But fret not, this is not the end. I ain’t givin in that easily. For all the posts that will follow, I’ll only keep the files up for one month. One month and then they’re down again (well, give or take). For you that means come here often, peep what’s new and don’t complain if you’ve missed out.

By the way, I’m not doing this cos I’ve gone soft or because I’m yielding to some coward bitch, but because I have a real life to live besides my blog, and this little hobby of mine is supposed to be fun, inspiring and productive, and not about playing hide-and-seek with some anally retentive toss-pot who’s desperate for any attention he might get.
I’ll still be posting about less-easy-to-find stuff that I think deserves your appreciation, maybe with a proper album review here or there, but if shit’s gone, you missed out.
See y’all in a few days, when I’m back with the freshness.

Peace y’all,
